ArnaldoRivera Langhe Nascetta del Commune di Novello 2016 – 17/20

Pale straw with a coppery tinge. Cool, subtle mandarin nose with hints of quince. Refreshing grapefruit and mandarin-flavoured palate. Long and subtle finish, but will show its true character
with further bottle age. (WS)

ArnaldoRivera Barbera d’Alba valdisera 2015 – 17/20

Barbera aged for nine months in stainless steel and French tonneaux and a further eight months in bottle before release.  Purplish crimson. Sweet blackberry fruit and cherry confit on the nose with a hint of oatmeal. Succulent blackberry fruit that is almost a little mouth-watering and with fine, yet firm, bitter tannins on the finish. Long and completely dry and almost a little savoury. Great stuff. (WS)

ArnaldoRivera Barolo undicicomuni 2013 – 17/20

Blend of grapes sourced from 11 different villages within the denomination. Total skin maceration of 13 days and aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, of which 25% in second- and third-year tonneaux, 50% in 25-hl casks and 25% in 50-hl casks. Just mid ruby. Attractive, tight, cherry-fruit nose laced with notes of oatmeal. Succulent red fruit on the palate with minerally notes and a hint of medicine. Gripping, almost austere tannins and very long and fragrant. (WS)

ArnaldoRivera Barolo Ravera 2013 – 17.5/20

Novello. A total of 13 days on the skins and spontaneous MLF in cask. Aged for 32 months in 50% tonneaux of second and third passage, 50% in 25-hl cask. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Embracing and almost opulent cherry nose with hints of iron. Gorgeous, supple red fruit and plenty of chewy tannins. Long, precise and delicious. Already approachable but has the capacity to age. (WS)

ArnaldoRivera Barolo Boiolo 2013 – 17/20

La Morra. 15 days of maceration time on the skins and aged for 32 months in new French oak tonneaux.  Mid ruby with bricky rim. Luxurious, but composed nose of red fruit and soft oak notes and perfectly integrated oak and fruit on the palate. Long sweet-sour cherry fruit with tightly built, mouth-filling tannins. Succulent yet gripping finish and while tannic, striking a great balance. (WS)

ArnaldoRivera Barolo Monvigiero 2013 – 17.5/20

Verduno. 12 days of total skin maceration and aged 32 months in French tonneaux of which 20% was new, and 80% second and third passage. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Complex nose of garden herbs and sour cherry with a hint of cedar. Finely grained tannins spiking perfumed, succulent cherry fruit on the palate. Lithe and yet formidable grip on the finish. Needs a year or two to truly open up. (WS)

ArnaldoRivera Barolo Castello 2013 – 17.5/20

Grinzane Cavour. 15 days of total skin maceration with spontaneous MLF in oak. 32 months in new French tonneaux and quite a luxury treatment for this relatively unknown cru.  Just mid ruby with bricky rim. The oakiest on the nose of all the Arnaldo Rivera 2013 Barolo but with an intriguing spiciness and minerality underneath. Firm tannins and shy yet long, austere cherry fruit. Really interesting, long and energetic and has absorbed all the oak. This will need some time to come around, and showing Grinzane Cavour from its very best side, or should that be site? (WS)

ArnaldoRivera Barolo Bussia 2013 – 17.5/20

Monforte d’Alba. 16 days of total skin maceration and spontaneous MLF in oak. Aged 32 months in new French tonneaux. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Spicy, deep nose with hints of oak, but quite true to site with minerally hints, too. Notes of tobacco leaf suggesting there is a bit of development going on. Gorgeous coating tannins ands fresh, concentrated cherry fruit on the palate. Subtle, long, fragrant finish and a little mouth-watering. A star in the making? (WS)

ArnaldoRivera Barolo Vignarionda 2013 – 17/20

Serralunga d’Alba. 18 days of total skin maceration and spontaneous MLF in cask. Aged for 32months in new French tonneaux.Just mid ruby with bricky rim. True Serralunga nose, dark and spicy and with notes of cigar box.Compact, supple, sour-cherry fruit and finely built tannins, but not as mouth-filling and edgy as Iexpect from this famous cru. Already approachable. (WS)

ArnaldoRivera Barolo Rocche di Castiglione 2013 – 17.5+/20

Castiglione Falletto. 16 days of total skin maceration and spontaneous MLF in cask. Aged for 32months in new French tonneaux. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Complex, dry oak with notes of cherry confit and crushed red currant.Tightly wound fruit that is not far from open and with spectacular, precise acidity. Bags of powdery tannins that need lots of time to integrate. Monumental and elegant at the same time. (WS)
